Confirmation - Gene Ammons - Boss Tenor (CD, Album)

Boss Tenor is my favorite jazz sax album, ever. The quality of recordings is excellent. Gene Ammons was brilliant and a joy to hear. He represents the sound I would like to get out of my tenor sax. Every time I listen to the album, I hear something new. "Canadian Sunset" is my favorite song on the album, but the album is full of great songs/5().

A soul jazz classic from Gene Ammons – the kind of session that easy made him "boss" on tenor – with a tone and conception that few other players could touch! The set is done in a style that's laidback, but never too loose – bouncing along in that "with conga" style of rhythm that was used strongly at the start of the 60s – with Ray Barretto Brand: Prestige/OJC (Label).

 · Boss Tenor, a quintet session from , is one of Ammons' very best albums. Ray Barretto 's congas subtly add a bit of Latin spice, but otherwise this is a collection of standards rendered with a gorgeous late-night bluesy feel/10().
